Cologne Christmas markets
The Dom, Cologne’s famous gothic cathedral, is surely the most stunning backdrop to any Christmas market.
The wooden huts in the shadow of the cathedral are hugely popular, but there are another half a dozen markets around the city to enjoy including one in the old town and another by the harbour.
It’s easy to combine your trip with an FC Köln match at the Rhein Energie Stadion, or Bayer Leverkusen a 15 minute train journey away.

Munich Christmas markets
Marienplatz in the heart of the city is the venue for the main market in Munich.
Expect to find some Bavarian specialities on the stalls, and there are musical treats too with tradition tunes performed from the balcony of the city’s grand town hall.
There are 20 markets spread across the city. Once you’ve enjoyed the festivities it’s time to head to the Allianz Arena and see the champions, Bayern Munich, in action.

Berlin Christmas markets
The German capital city does Christmas in style with an incredible 60 markets to choose from.
Perhaps the best known are the markets at Charlottenburg Castle, in the Gendarmenmarkt and in Potsdamer Plaztz which features the largest mobile toboggan run in Europe.
Take in a Hertha Berlin match at the Olympiastadion, or head to the east of the city to watch Union Berlin in the second division.

The buzzing city of Hamburg hosts equally lively Christmas markets, with the main venue located in the shadow of the magnificent town hall.
Check out the parade through the city centre every Saturday during Advent while Santa and his reindeer sleigh can be seen above the rooftops every day.
